As
a yoga practitioner and teacher, I often wonder if it is even possible
that one can keep a balanced state of mind and body without practicing yoga!
Every aspect of our lives and every role that we find ourselves in requires a
healthy body and mind. My 4 year old daughter is a constant reminder of the freedom
of spirit within children and their ability to live in the present moment, a state
of being which I strive for through my practice.
The search for spiritual
growth and knowledge started well before I could walk, as I grew up in a family
where the Temple was my second home. I could sing Kirtans before I could
speak and understand English.
I studied Somatology, Reflexology,
Aromatherapy and Thai yoga massage and then spent  a number
of years in the corporate industry. My yoga practice was what kept me from
buckling under the pressures that come with most jobs these days. I found myself
spending increasing amounts of time on my physical and spiritual practice of yoga,
trying to soak up any and all information I could lay my hands on. It was a natural
progression from that point on, when I decided to train as a teacher.
My
teacher training was done at Ananda Sanga, an institution that promotes
the complete practice of yoga, which is ultimately self realisation through the
body, mind, breath connection. A practice that nurtures the spiritual as well
as the physical body towards the ultimate goal of Samhadi. I now live with my
family in the beautiful Riebeek Valley, teaching yoga and exploring
my creativity as an artist.
